Chimichanga
Best fried chimichangas I've ever had anywhere! We absolutely love everything about the restaurant, from the atmosphere and employees to the chips & Salsa and main courses. Everything is a step above all other Mexican restaurants in the Charlotte area!
Hacienda Special #28
Just moved back to the area and found this little gem in Austin Village Chestnut. I've ordered takeout twice and the food is outstanding. The portions are big and the food delicious. Would recommend the Hacienda Special and work your way through the menu.
Quesa Birrias
The Quesa Birrias were absolutely delectable!! Definitely will be going back!!
New Sample Platter
We went to Hacienda El Rey, Chestnut Village. It was very good, we will be back to try new dishes. Our waitress Yesica (pronounced like Jessica - hope I spelled it properly!) was an absolute treasure, we struck up a conversation (she is Colombian) about Colombian food and a few great places to try in our area. She was very gracious, attentive, excellent service. If you go - ask for her, mention my name! We wanted to try a bit of a variety - so got the sampler platter, you can pick four items. Beef chimichanga, chicken quesadilla, chicken strips, chicken wings. First of all the ingredients were very fresh, the dishes were cooked perfectly nothing dry, or overdone. The seasonings were light, not overpowering. We enjoyed everything and don't laugh, the chicken strips were really good! I absolutely love the breading, and they were tender and juicy. Excellent when you dip them in the guacamole or pico de gallo. I really liked the flavor of the buffalo wings and they were cooked perfectly. The only suggestion I have is that you ask for a larger portion of the fresh, homemade pico de gallo, and the guacamole. Because it's excellent on the tacos and the Papa Ricas! We got a small bowl of queso. The fiance wanted to try the Papa Ricas. VERY good, especially dipped in the queso - which was savory, creamy and we put some on our tacos too! Only two tacos (shrimp and campechanos aka steak and chorizo) because we knew we already had too much food ? and wanted to save room for fried ice cream. Which was really light, flavorful and a great treat to finish the meal. These were soft tacos, they are small, but the shrimp is extremely fresh. Definitely going to get the shrimp steak and chicken fajitas and the ceviche next time - again only suggestion? You want to ask for extra guac and pico to Gallo to flavor the meals but I really enjoyed it because I could taste all the ingredients. No one thing overpowered another which was nice. Nothing was too salty or spicy - except for the two little sauces for the tacos lol! They were spicy! Again the other condiments were excellent and I prefer to add my own flavoring anyway. I got the Sopa de Polla, homemade to take home for tomorrow, looks wonderful and all fresh ingredients. Anybody that knows my reviews knows I'm not really a fan of potatoes or french fries, but these (papa ricas) were cooked perfectly on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. I asked for extra pico de gallo because it needed it. None of the flavors and seasonings are very strong so we do recommend that you ask for additional pico and guacamole and go for a small queso bowl. I almost tried the Hacienda Special - I wish I had now, but that will be our next trip! The fajitas are also our next dish. Yesica suggested that we try the flan next time - they make it in house - and we will! All in all - a good, home cooked Mexican meal, that's close to home? This is our new go-to. These are my favorite tacos to order at any Mexican restaurant! They are so fresh and always come with freshly chopped cilantro, limes, and onions. I order it every time I go!
Create Your Own Rey Bowl
Absolutely delicious and fresh! Such a huge portion of chicken as well. Did not disappoint! Will be back

Steak El Rey
Absolutely amazing food and great service!! We loved everything we ordered!! The Steak El Rey was SO juicy and delicious! The chicken fajitas were the best around! Even our kids were happy!! We will be back again and again! Do yourself a favor and give this place a try!! Salud!
